Stay in school, kids!
I thank Chris Dave for putting a bench mark in jazz music. Our generation experiences music differently than the previous; with mp3’s filled with contrasting styles we can switch from one to another in a split second. Chris taps into this cultural habit by having the ability to switch mid-groove, mid-song, between feels, tempi, and timbres. His recreation of reproduced live drums emphasizes his attention to detail. He can emulate a DJ by rewinding, replaying, delaying, slow-motion, fast-forwarding, chopping, and layering. His unique style has placed my attention towards his influences and then learning from them. It’s always been the telephone game in jazz drumming for me; to be able to interpret one thing and make it your own, and that’s what I love about Chris Daddy Dave.
A Great.
Society believes musicians are just doing this for fun and don’t need the money. Society is woefully wrong. You try playing jazz or uplifting a wedding and convention—after schlepping tons of back-breaking equipment.
